This release note documents several components of the IRIS
InSight family: the IRIS InSight Viewer, SGIHelp, and the
SGIHelp XHelp Developer's kit.
The IRIS InSight Viewer lets you access Silicon Graphic's
online documentation. With this product you can view,
navigate through, search, and print all available "books";
such as those that are distributed as part of the standard
end-user environment. If you have purchased any of the
Developer Product Bundles, you can view books that are part
of the Developer documentation set as well.
SGIHelp is based upon the IRIS InSight technology and is the
IRIX Interactive Desktop(TM) help system that is utilized by
the majority of applications shipped from Silicon Graphics,
Inc. Content that is displayed to the user is retrieved
directly from IRIS InSight books. Once within the SGIHelp
Viewer, the user can scroll through the text, navigate via
hypertext links, view glossary terms, print, and browse a
Contents area which contains the help topics for a
particular application that generated a "help" request.
SGIHelp is an application that is executed when a request is
made to get "help". In general, such requests are generated
from (but are not limited to) an application's "Help" menu
or "Help" pushbutton(s). A user never has to start SGIHelp
from the command-line.
The SGIHelp XHelp Developer's kit is a set of tools that
enable developers to create context-sensitive and topic-
based help for their applications. Help created with these
tools is directly viewable from within the SGIHelp system.
Many End-User, Administrative and Help online books are
contained within subsystems included in the IRIX Execution
Environment products. Developer books are included as part
of the Developer Product Bundles. Many other optional
software products include books as well. In general, books
can be installed from those subsystems that utilize the
"*.books.*" subsystem image designation. Examples include:
desktop_eoe.books.Desktop_UG, dmedia_eoe.books.MediaTls_UG,
eoe.books.help, and eoe.books.sgi_admin to name a few.
Note: Packaged with this software is a separate sheet that
contains the Software License Agreement. This
software is provided to you solely under the terms
and conditions of the Software License Agreement.
Please take a few moments to review the Agreement.
